This podcast is for you, a mother who years ago walked away from a career to raise your child. Sure, you’ve been busy volunteering, car pools, maybe part-time work and taking care of everyone. But your main gig, that has been your child. Now, that they are in their later years of high school, the empty nest looms ahead for you and it is freaking you out. I’ve been there and I get it. Together, we’ll turn our freaking out energy into freaking awesome energy.

Hello, my future empty nest friend. I have been wanting more laughter in my life. How about you? When doing a google search I was brought to an entertaining Tedx Youth Talk by Sean Conley. I’ve found recently that the more present I am in life, the happier I am, and rather than becoming upset with things that happen, whatever they are, things that I used to be upset about, I often find them rather funny. Not all the time, but most of the time. Others must find me a bit wacky as they tell me stories that they obviously want me upset about, and I immediately see the humor in it. But, you know what, I watch myself, and I’m okay with it. I’m just that person. It makes you really want to hang out with me, doesn’t it?

Stand up comedian Steve Mazan said in his TedX talk that laughter is like a “reset button for your soul,” and I have found this to be true. So, when you catch yourself overwhelmed with thought deliveries that are creating negative feelings in you, I challenge you to search out something funny, either in the situation you are in, or something completely external. Search for it on purpose. I’m going to challenge you now, to take some time to find amusing things to have on hand for when you need them. Create a YouTube playlist, or maybe a folder on your computer with funny gifs or memes, so when you are feeling overwhelmed and unable to pull out of it, go find the funny that you’ve stored away. Maybe you want to collect funny stories of your own life that you are assembling in a journal.
00:02:58
Give this a try, see if it resets your soul. If it allows you to stop the thought deliveries long enough to make sense of them, and organize them in a way that benefits you. I think you’ll like it. I created a playlist called “Find the Funny.” It’s on my YouTube Channel, and it’s a collection of videos that makes me giggle. I’m going to continue to add to it. It’s small now, so if you have a video you think is worth adding, please let me know. My friend, let’s find the funny. It’ll help us find our GPS, and empower our life enough to change the world around us.
