Hello, amazing human and beautiful soul! One of the most surprising things about the empty nest transition, I have found, is that there isnβt one singular transition period for all of us:
If you have more than one child, each child leaving mixes things up.
Many children end up returning home for- ever, or, some period of time down the road.
Just as your nest is becoming empty, you may become a caregiver to your parent and you may move in with them or they move in with you.
The empty nest years can sometimes be a not-so-empty nest.
The four things Iβm mentioning today are great for each time your household dynamic changes for any reason, really, even if it is a return home from college break. Remember these four things as you adjust: PSPF.
The first P? Is Patience for Self. S is for Self-love - more on that back in Day 5. The second P is Patience for Others; and finally F: for Fun! So we have patience, patience, love, and fun - what else do we really need in life? (okay, outside of water, food, shelter and air). [giggle]
While these four things are fairly self-explanatory, Iβll say a little bit more. The Patience for Self is in the navigation of the change - giving yourself time to adjust and the space to feel the emotions. Self-Love: we absolutely do cover this more in Day 5, but as always, you are freaking amazing and donβt you dare forget it.
Next, we have Patience for Others - a change in the household impacts everyone in the household - that includes not only you and your partner(should you have one) but also siblings to those who are coming and going and it even impacts your pets.
Also, the impact may be different for each one of you. Having different emotions and being in different spaces is fine - and this is where the patience for one another helps.
And Finally - F for fun- it is super easy to forget this one in the day to day activities, the todo lists, all of the plans that you have made, and so on. I invite you to look for the fun, if you arenβt naturally finding it.
