30-Day Challenge to Empty Nest Success: Challenge Wrap-Up 💚 (30/30)

FULL TRANSCRIPT

[level-up music]

The Challenge Wrap-Up is our topic for today (Day 30) in the 30-Day Challenge to Empty Nest Success.

[level-up music]

If this is your first time listening,  know we are diving into the challenge content. If you like what you hear, jump back to the episode titled “Getting Started with the 30-Day Challenge to Empty Nest Success” and then work your way through from the beginning - or visit EmptyNestSuccess.com to sign up for daily or weekly email delivery of this challenge that will lead you to companion videos, additional journal prompts, resources and more!

Here we go:

[end music]

00:42

Amazing human and beautiful soul, thank you for listening to and participating in the 30-Day Challenge to Empty Nest Success -  whether you listened to this one episode or all 30, I appreciate you tuning in!

As I record this episode, it has been a solid five years of creating this podcast and the content created around it. Initially, an inspired idea that focused on providing helpful resources that past me would have loved - that’s past me where my child was heading off to college out of state and four years early.

I always say in these episodes, my hope is that the content provides you with thoughts (your thoughts) that positively impact your life: YOUR amazing life - and the incredible years that you have ahead of you.

As this challenge wraps up, if you’d enjoy additional resources from me, I invite you to do this challenge using the additional video playlist created on YouTube - the content is slightly different - and consider signing-up for email reminders to walk you through the challenge, as well! In the show notes, you’ll find a link to current empty nest success offerings available.

Use this podcast season (season 2) as toolbox items for yourself: listen to or watch your favorites, perhaps come back and re-listen to all of it in a year and see if some concepts resonate differently with you.

My goal with  this content (and in my coaching) is always for you to become the C.E.O. of YOUR life: consciously processing your thought-box-deliveries, considering your emotions and how to process them so you may move to the other side of emotions when necessary; learning what is best kept outside of your fence; training your Protector and much more.

Your amazing self is within reach. I believe that. Sometimes, though, you may have trouble finding (or recognizing) your amazing self among the mental clutter that life has left on your doorstep. Be patient if this is the case. You’ll find yourself!

Time and time again, I’ve witnessed clients discover that their life CAN have less drama and more time, and that life can be fun! It is my joy to watch this happen as they clear and organize their thought-box-deliveries.

We all can use more time, can’t we? Time you can then spend getting to know yourself better, trying things, building relationships, repairing relationships, and well, doing whatever you feel led to do - maybe you want to learn to fly a plane, travel solo, travel with others, enjoy your life as it is, wake up and take in the sunrise every day - or something else entirely: you can find YOUR answer!

The decluttering and learning to become the Conscious Effective Olympian of your life may one day deliver this moment where you find yourself wondering, “How am I so calm about so many things that used to have me on high-alert?”

I’ve experienced this myself, and clients have as well.

While you’ll KNOW how you did it, that moment when you see your growth and experience click in regularly - or even every so often - it’s incredible.

So here you are, today. You get to choose what is outside of your fence. You get to ask yourself if you will spend time doing things that you want to focus on, that allow you to show up better for not only you, but for your family and this world.

While I’m mentioning others, remember: you can’t show up in the best way possible for others if you don’t show yourself that level of respect, time and energy. This world needs you to be you  - fully.

You may remember that at the beginning of this 30-Day Challenge to Empty Nest Success, I invited you to consider this challenge as a seed catalog where you get to choose the seeds (the topics) to fill your garden.

Now, at the end, it’s a great time to consider which concepts or “seeds” resonated with you the most. Toss those into your garden and care for them lovingly. You don’t need them all to start. Really! Lovingly focusing on one or two will provide knowledge about yourself that will help you to successfully grow others over time.

So good!

New Things, New Things, New Things

Oo, I love  bringing back  these regular segments back again! [It] feels really nice.

First, while this episode does wrap up season 2 of the Your Empty Nest Coach podcast, I will return with Season 3 in mid to late 2024.

Do you have a question about a topic? A topic you’d like me to cover? A win to share? A question specific to empty nesting that you’d like me to tackle, maybe? See the show notes for information on how to make a submission!

Second, should you be looking for a safe person to hold space for you in the empty nest transition, I invite you to consider private coaching with me! Take the six-question quiz to see if it’s a great fit for you.

That being said, if you’ve received all you need from the podcast and free resources - that makes my heart happy, too!

Either way, I kindly ask that if you have found this podcast helpful, please share it with others, as that is the best way to allow the podcast to reach the people who need it. Thanks!

30-Day Challenge to Empty Nest Success: Loving Others 💚 (29/30)

FULL TRANSCRIPT

[level-up music]

Loving Others is our topic for today (Day 29) in the 30-Day Challenge to Empty Nest Success.

Here we go:

[end music]

00:41

Amazing human and beautiful soul, we are in our penultimate episode. I’ll be mentioning some concepts and terms introduced in earlier days of this challenge and links to those episodes will be in the show notes.

Our topic: When we love someone, that person is outside of our fence. Our Protector  has a lot to do with thought-box-deliveries sent in about that individual. Pay attention to how those deliveries are arriving? Are they neatly gift-wrapped with a bow and a loving card or on high-alert?

Where love is concerned, our thought-box-deliveries can be big, beautiful, sometimes even arrive with a singing telegram, if you will.

Most of us can think of a time when we were full on in love with someone and then at another moment may have felt quite the opposite about the same person. We can choose to love them, ignore them, be curious about them, empathetic toward them, and so on.

When you imagine a person you love being outside of your fence and begin to think about the loving “thoughts” toward them as deliveries that you choose to pay attention to (or not pay attention to), then things can get interesting.

Ultimately, our thoughts that make us feel love are where the love is.

Kind of wild isn’t it?

If you don’t want to go that deep here, no biggie, I’ll put some other episode links and such in the show notes, go ahead, tap through and listen to those… no need to continue here if you aren’t feeling it.

Oo! You’re still listening? Great! There are a lot of thoughts that can be created from someone existing in our life.

How they show up in our life; When they show up; What they do for us - or don’t do for us; these are all happenings outside of our fence.

If you discover thoughts you have about someone that are clear changes from how you have felt about them in the past, I invite you to take a look at where that comes from, especially if your mind’s house used to be filled from floor to ceiling with loving thoughts about them.

Those thoughts are still there, they may be dust-covered and hard to find, sometimes from neglect and sometimes because, yeah,  they need to be there.

Remember that time when that person could do no wrong and you loved everything (well, almost everything) about them. And yet, now you find yourself focused on the same thought or couple of thoughts that bring you to an emotion that doesn’t feel so good.

Maybe those thoughts are justified, and action is necessary. Or, maybe you need to clean up some of those thought-box deliveries. That’s for you to figure out. But also know that whether the person is physically in your life or not, the thought-box-deliveries remain.

How often do we as humans walk away from a situation, or place, or person only to continually talk about it, rehash it over and over again, tell each person you see, journal about it and more.

Decide how you want to feel and what you want to do with the boxes.

Do you want to re-enter the room and pull out the lovely - feel-good-in-your soul thought box deliveries?

Or, do you want to  toss them out because they aren’t aligned with where you are now

Or, maybe create a new thought-box for where your relationship is now

Make sure wherever you land, has you feeling really good - or if this is going to take you some time, maybe aim for better than you felt before.

As always, be curious about what you learn about yourself along the way.

Love is a funny thing.

We know it is possible to love someone who doesn’t love us back and vice versa - on either side of that  - it feels pretty lousy, doesn’t it? - unless you find better thoughts.

Sometimes, the timing has expired, isn’t right, or maybe it never will be. Either way, it doesn’t negate the loving feelings that one has for another human.  You can love fully without expectations from another. The love you feel ultimately is thoughts you have.

Are you still with me?

You can do anything you want with your thoughts about love. Really! And when you embrace this, things can get fun.

By now, in the challenge, you may be starting to get a feel for managing your thought-box-deliveries, so how you feel led to arrange, curate and find loving-led thought-boxes is for you to figure out.

Whether you decide to

  1. dig out good thoughts from a room that has been locked up and hidden away

  2.  or hold space, be curious and have fun loving others whether they love you or not,

you get to choose.

You can acquire loving feelings for anyone - you don’t need their permission, you don’t need to take physical action, you may never even meet them in real life. Maybe, they aren’t physically in your life anymore (and that could be for a variety of reasons) but that doesn’t mean you need to stop the love. If the love feels good - LOVE!

What if… the love for others and love for humanity that you create in your life is your gift to You? Helping you to feel better. Choosing love a little more often may give your life a momentum that is worth exploring.

06:37

[level-up music]

Your journal prompt for today is … Reflect on your thoughts and beliefs about love. How do you define love, and what does it mean to you personally?

Challenge: What if?  (6/30)

FULL TRANSCRIPT

[level-up music]

What if? is our topic for today (Day 6) in the 30-Day Challenge to Empty Nest Success.

[level-up music]

If this is your first time listening, know we are diving into the challenge content. Here we go:

00:41

Amazing human and beautiful soul….this one has been a game-changer for me and it might be for you as well!

I invite you to choose a topic that is near the top of your mind.

[pause]

Now I’d like you to form the first sentence that comes to mind around that topic that begins with What if…

[pause] What question came to mind for you?

[pause]

Is it a positive question or a negative question?

Meaning,  do you go to what if this particular scenario that wouldn’t be good, happens? Or do you go to something more along the lines of what if this incredible thing happens that’s super fun?

For many of us (and this may be you), what-iffing a topic may automatically bring on worries and concerns.

For example: Your child is considering changing their college major and you go to, “What if this major my child has chosen provides no job opportunities?”

or

“What if this [awful thing] happens?” And that [awful thing] is whatever you mind has  chosen to insert today.

While having a healthy level of outlook and preparation is not bad at all, when we always focus on the what ifs that can go wrong and never consider the what ifs that can go right - we tend to only find more things that can go wrong, and more things, and more things.

I have loved the switcheroo of the what ifs to positive so much so that I no longer focus on affirmations without putting what if in front of them. For the rare breed of human who fully believes a new affirmation they’re given for their lives out of the gate, you wouldn’t need to do this but if you hear an affirmation for your life and think, “yeah, right” or something similar, then try this what-if switcheroo!

An example might be nice. If you have an affirmation such as:

I am capable of doing anything I want. I am smart, beautiful and know who I am as a human.

You could find yourself pushing back on a portion of that - or all of it - but then add What if to the beginning and wow - things get interesting.

Let’s try it with that same affirmation. I’ll give you some space after each one so that you may  repeat these to yourself.

What if I am capable of doing anything I want?

[pause]

What if I am smart, beautiful and know who I am as a human?

[pause]

What if?

It gets interesting, doesn’t it? Of course, you can use this for your thoughts about your kids…

What if my child pursues their dream and it all works out?

And any topic under the sun - even to thoughts about your upcoming errands:

What if the time in the waiting room flies by and I have fun?

With this consideration, I ask you:

What if everything works out?

What if you could do anything in the world when you wake up tomorrow?

The possibilities here are endless. Allow What-if to open up your imagination, to shift your thoughts a bit, and see what happens.

Give what-iffing your life a try today.

04:38

[level-up music]

Your journal prompt for today is …. What if you dreamt like you did when you were a child, and think "what if" that thing happens?

04:50

Challenge: Become Your Own Biggest Fan (5/30)

FULL TRANSCRIPT

[level-up music]

Becoming your own biggest fan is our topic  today (Day 5) in the 30-Day Challenge to Empty Nest Success.

Here we go:

00:42

Amazing human and beautiful soul, how is your inner dialogue about yourself?

Consider how kind you are when you speak to yourself. If you are like many humans, you already know you can be quite brutal.

Sadly, it is fairly common. Noting it, though, is a start.

For most of us, we haven't been trained to do anything other than unfortunate self-talk.

But noting that we do it, allows us to begin to be curious about it and consider new ways to talk to ourselves: ways to follow up with a thought and to show patience, kindness, loving consideration to ourselves.

Those unkind thoughts that we have about ourselves, they aren’t ones we were born with. We’ve heard them from someone and have decided that they are truths. If you are able to catch yourself in a thought about you that you wouldn’t say that out loud to someone you love (or anyone actually) then, it’s time to clean that up.

A really important thing to keep in mind, though, is to be kind to yourself as you process this. The last thing you want to do is bully yourself about bullying yourself - it is time to break that cycle. You are amazing after all!

One final thought to consider is that if you are unable to provide support and patience and love toward yourself, then where are you gaining the energy to do it for others?

Ooo. That was a little tough love there, huh?

For today, consider becoming your own biggest fan: cheering yourself on; having patience and love for yourself. And sit with the fun thought that your future self is cheering you on. Just as you can look back now and think upon your past self. How fun is that?

02:46

[level-up music]

Your journal prompt for today is …. Do you realize how unsupportive you can be to yourself through your thoughts? And, what is one thought you can change up to allow yourself to feel better?

[exit music - upbeat]

Thanks for listening today, remember to check in on what you are saying to yourself, and don’t you dare forget that you are amazing!
