Challenge: Their Future - What's Your Story? (8/30)

FULL TRANSCRIPT

[level-up music]

What’s your story about your child’s future? is our topic for today (Day 8) in the 30-Day Challenge to Empty Nest Success.

[level-up music]

If this is your first time listening,  know we are diving into the challenge content. If you like what you hear, jump back to the episode titled “Getting Started with the 30-Day Challenge to Empty Nest Success” and then work your way through from the beginning - or visit EmptyNestSuccess.com to sign up for daily or weekly email delivery of this challenge that will lead you to companion videos, additional journal prompts, resources and more!

Here we go:

00:43

Hi, amazing human and beautiful soul, I’d like you to consider, today, the storytelling that  you do about our child’s future (or your own future).

Anytime we think, share, or talk about the future we are in imaginary-land.

Meaning, we are creating something (telling a story) that may or may not ever happen. How often are we telling stories that make us feel something other than really fantastic?

Stop for a moment and take in that you have lived on this planet for decades figuring out things as you go. You rise to challenges, and sometimes you don’t, but you’re still here and you keep going. Trust in yourself that if the future plays out in an unexpected way that you’ll have all the resources you need in that moment - or, that the unexpected way could be a lovely surprise.

Unless you are a time traveler,  (Do you have a tardis?) you aren’t in the future.

You may not be surprised that I have an analogy for these future-story moments. Remember, these are moments when we are guessing what might happen in the future.

Have you used Google earth? There’s that satellite view and then there’s an option to tap and get a street view style. There’s a little person you can drop onto a specific place in a singular moment and look around.

Now, I imagine us (as we tell these future-story moments) it’s as if we have taken ourselves, and dropped us in this one particular moment that could possibly happen, but we have no resources to deal with because - it doesn’t exist now.

Meanwhile, you could have dropped yourself in all these other places - just like you can in Google street view - all these different ways that your future could eventually play out and that specific story moment may never, actually, happen.

Yet, our mind will treat that story that we are telling as if it is true now. And the present moment? Well, that, we're currently missing.

I invite you to pay attention to the stories you are telling about the future - especially when it comes to stories about your child’s future.

As I said in an earlier episode, there is a level of preparation that we all need about the future.

Try combining the what-if with it, and invite yourself to spend time in a future that, sure, while it can be practical but also why not make it exciting and fun? Right now, you deserve nothing less.

I’ll talk about the present moment in the next episode.

03:31

Your journal prompt for today is ….What story do you tell about your child's future?

Four things to remember as you enter the empty nest years is our topic for today (Day 7) in the 30-Day Challenge to Empty Nest Success.

Here we go:

00:44

Hello, amazing human and beautiful soul! One of the most surprising things about the empty nest transition, I have found, is that there isn’t one singular transition period for all of us:

  • If you have more than one child, each child leaving mixes things up.

  • Many children end up returning home for- ever, or, some period of time down the road.

  • Just as your nest is becoming empty, you may become a caregiver to your parent and you may move in with them or they move in with you.

  • The empty nest years can sometimes be a not-so-empty nest.

The four things I’m mentioning today are great for each time your household dynamic changes for any reason, really, even if it is a return home from college break. Remember these four things as you adjust: PSPF.

The first P? Is Patience for Self. S is for Self-love - more on that back in Day 5. The second P is Patience for Others; and finally F: for Fun! So we have patience, patience, love, and fun - what else do we really need in life?  (okay, outside of water, food, shelter and air). [giggle]

While these four things are fairly self-explanatory, I’ll say a little bit more. The Patience for Self is in the navigation of the change - giving yourself time to adjust and the space to feel the emotions. Self-Love: we absolutely do cover this more in Day 5, but as always, you are freaking amazing and don’t you dare forget it.

Next, we have Patience for Others - a change in the household impacts everyone in the household - that includes not only you and your partner(should you have one) but also siblings to those who are coming and going and it even impacts your pets.

Also, the impact may be different for each one of you. Having different emotions and being in different spaces is fine - and this is where the patience for one another helps.

And Finally - F for fun- it is super easy to forget this one in the day to day activities, the todo lists, all of the plans that  you have made, and so on.  I invite you to look for the fun, if you aren’t naturally finding it.

03:13

[level-up music]

Your journal prompt for today is …. Have you noticed others don't have the same emotions about the empty nest as you do?

Challenge: What if?  (6/30)

FULL TRANSCRIPT

[level-up music]

What if? is our topic for today (Day 6) in the 30-Day Challenge to Empty Nest Success.

[level-up music]

If this is your first time listening, know we are diving into the challenge content. Here we go:

00:41

Amazing human and beautiful soul….this one has been a game-changer for me and it might be for you as well!

I invite you to choose a topic that is near the top of your mind.

[pause]

Now I’d like you to form the first sentence that comes to mind around that topic that begins with What if…

[pause] What question came to mind for you?

[pause]

Is it a positive question or a negative question?

Meaning,  do you go to what if this particular scenario that wouldn’t be good, happens? Or do you go to something more along the lines of what if this incredible thing happens that’s super fun?

For many of us (and this may be you), what-iffing a topic may automatically bring on worries and concerns.

For example: Your child is considering changing their college major and you go to, “What if this major my child has chosen provides no job opportunities?”

or

“What if this [awful thing] happens?” And that [awful thing] is whatever you mind has  chosen to insert today.

While having a healthy level of outlook and preparation is not bad at all, when we always focus on the what ifs that can go wrong and never consider the what ifs that can go right - we tend to only find more things that can go wrong, and more things, and more things.

I have loved the switcheroo of the what ifs to positive so much so that I no longer focus on affirmations without putting what if in front of them. For the rare breed of human who fully believes a new affirmation they’re given for their lives out of the gate, you wouldn’t need to do this but if you hear an affirmation for your life and think, “yeah, right” or something similar, then try this what-if switcheroo!

An example might be nice. If you have an affirmation such as:

I am capable of doing anything I want. I am smart, beautiful and know who I am as a human.

You could find yourself pushing back on a portion of that - or all of it - but then add What if to the beginning and wow - things get interesting.

Let’s try it with that same affirmation. I’ll give you some space after each one so that you may  repeat these to yourself.

What if I am capable of doing anything I want?

[pause]

What if I am smart, beautiful and know who I am as a human?

[pause]

What if?

It gets interesting, doesn’t it? Of course, you can use this for your thoughts about your kids…

What if my child pursues their dream and it all works out?

And any topic under the sun - even to thoughts about your upcoming errands:

What if the time in the waiting room flies by and I have fun?

With this consideration, I ask you:

What if everything works out?

What if you could do anything in the world when you wake up tomorrow?

The possibilities here are endless. Allow What-if to open up your imagination, to shift your thoughts a bit, and see what happens.

Give what-iffing your life a try today.

04:38

[level-up music]

Your journal prompt for today is …. What if you dreamt like you did when you were a child, and think "what if" that thing happens?

Challenge: Become Your Own Biggest Fan (5/30)

Becoming your own biggest fan is our topic  today (Day 5) in the 30-Day Challenge to Empty Nest Success.

Here we go:

00:42

Amazing human and beautiful soul, how is your inner dialogue about yourself?

Consider how kind you are when you speak to yourself. If you are like many humans, you already know you can be quite brutal.

Sadly, it is fairly common. Noting it, though, is a start.

For most of us, we haven't been trained to do anything other than unfortunate self-talk.

But noting that we do it, allows us to begin to be curious about it and consider new ways to talk to ourselves: ways to follow up with a thought and to show patience, kindness, loving consideration to ourselves.

Those unkind thoughts that we have about ourselves, they aren’t ones we were born with. We’ve heard them from someone and have decided that they are truths. If you are able to catch yourself in a thought about you that you wouldn’t say that out loud to someone you love (or anyone actually) then, it’s time to clean that up.

A really important thing to keep in mind, though, is to be kind to yourself as you process this. The last thing you want to do is bully yourself about bullying yourself - it is time to break that cycle. You are amazing after all!

One final thought to consider is that if you are unable to provide support and patience and love toward yourself, then where are you gaining the energy to do it for others?

Ooo. That was a little tough love there, huh?

For today, consider becoming your own biggest fan: cheering yourself on; having patience and love for yourself. And sit with the fun thought that your future self is cheering you on. Just as you can look back now and think upon your past self. How fun is that?

02:46

[level-up music]

Your journal prompt for today is …. Do you realize how unsupportive you can be to yourself through your thoughts? And, what is one thought you can change up to allow yourself to feel better?

Challenge: Celebrate Personal Wins (4/30)

FULL TRANSCRIPT

[level-up music]

Celebrating your personal wins is our topic for today (Day 4) in the 30-Day Challenge to Empty Nest Success.

[level-up music]

If this is your first time listening,  know we are diving into the challenge content. Here we go:

00:43

Amazing human and beautiful soul,  it is incredibly easy to take small wins for granted. This topic is one of my favorites. I encourage you to everyday,  celebrate a win - or multiple wins.

I like to say - celebrate your wins: big or small, we celebrate them all!

There are days where getting out of bed is a win! Maybe you made all the meals for your family - and you always do (without even giving it a second of thought).

I invite you to find something to celebrate each and every day. If you're comfortable, share your celebration with others, but be careful that you don't change how you feel about your win based on their reaction.

Sometimes the reactions of others may not line up with our expectations of their reaction. This could be for many reasons:  maybe they may have no interest in it; they may have something else entirely on their mind; they may not understand to the level that this is a big deal - for you. Maybe, it’s something that's easy for them, but it wasn't for you.

With this in mind, I encourage you to make the celebration of your win less dependent on other people's reactions.

If you feel good about the win before you tell someone, make sure no matter their reaction you still feel good about it after. It’s important!

You should be really proud of yourself. I’m celebrating with you and I'd love to know what your wins are.

02:28

Your journal prompt for today is ….What wins have you been ignoring in your life?

Challenge: Your New Role As A Parent (The Coach) (3/30)

FULL TRANSCRIPT

[level-up music]

Your new role as a parent is our topic for today (Day 3) in the 30-Day Challenge to Empty Nest Success.

[happy upbeat music under voice over]

If this is your first time listening,  know we are diving into the challenge content. Here we go:

00:44

Amazing human and beautiful soul you’ve made my day by stopping by and listening.

One of the things I love most about coaching clients is being able to witness their new-found trust in themselves as they begin their journey forward in a way that truly honors who they are. It isn’t an easy thing to explain with words but I’ll make an attempt:

I imagine it as if energy that has always been there within these beautiful humans (hiding) is initially doing its best to peer through cracks in all their thoughts and beliefs of who they are - which tend to be thoughts built with words from others. Providing space for them to be them, to share their feelings, their thoughts and begin to be curious, allows those cracks of light (their inner being) to expand at first into a window but eventually a beautiful stained glass window that is all theirs.

With their beautiful light shining out into the world in their unique way, they gain the confidence to live life in a way that honors them; and in also showing up in their authenticity - the world gets so much more just by them being who they are.

Ooooo… it’s so good.

I share this with you, as being able to do something similar for your child is about as good as it gets. You can almost imagine the colors and dancing colorful lights you would be able to have in a room when two people show up in this way.

Yes, we know your role as a parent will adjust and be different as your child grows up, but I invite you to consider that that role (as a coach), when you choose to show up in that way - in those times where your initial gut reaction is to solve everything - but you choose to be that coach for them, that is a gift that will continue to keep giving.

And, of course, you can pop out of the role whenever necessary.

Consider the pressure you get to take off of yourself as your emerging adult has the space they need to become their best version of who they are meant to be.

These skills, thoughts and concepts in this: the 30-Day Challenge to Empty Nest Success are all ones I use with my clients  - and are also ones you can adapt in your own life to use with your child.

I often hear comments such as: "My time as a mother is over." or “All I ever wanted to be was a parent, and now I’m not sure who I am.”

You are still a parent. It is different, sure, but trust me, you’ll have moments (usually when you least expect them) when your adult child suddenly needs you - and then it is “go time.’

This different role as a parent could be:

Different [matter-of-fact]

Different [sad]

Different [questioning]

Different [happy]

You get to choose. Imagine, for a moment,  a relationship with your child long-term where your whole purpose is to love them and not to solve their problems. Imagine that you are confident in who you are and show up seeing them in all of their potential - even when they can’t see it themselves.

Imagine yourself giving them the space to be fully them: when they are winning, and when they are in the midst of losing - it’s all their journey and their opportunity to learn more about themselves.

I invite you to consider this new parenting role as a coach. I’m cheering you on!

04:49

[level-up music]

Your journal prompt for today is:  How do you feel about considering yourself as a coach to your child(ren) and what kind of coach would you like to be?

05: 02

01:25

Amazing human, you may be wondering why I mentioned that there would be an announcement recap. Here’s my thinking: this empty nest success challenge is meant for you to have ideally, under ten minutes of an episode to introduce a concept to you. Rather than doubling the time of the remaining episodes by repeating these announcements each time, I’m going to trust that most of you will start with these first few, and will have everything you need, and if not, you’ll know to click through to my website or to check the show notes in order to be pointed in the right direction.

My goal is for days 3- 30 of this challenge, we’ll jump almost immediately into the topic of the day and then allow you to dive into your day and continue on your journey in becoming the Conscious Effective Olympian of Your Life!

Before I recap the announcements, I’m thrilled that I have a brand new one today that is incredibly well-timed following our top-of the-toolbox episode!

02:28

[level-up music]

I’m thrilled to invite you to join me and over 100 other expert speakers in the Get Organized virtual HQ summit. I have a free ticket for you and it includes the special bonuses of an Event Facebook Group invite - yes, I’ll be popping in there from time to time - you also will receive an Attendee Roadmap and a Personalized Schedule Generator - as with over 100 sessions lined up, it may be hard to know where to begin.

Honestly, I can’t sing the praises of the Get Organized HQ team enough. I’m a pretty type A, and a super organized human which means I have high standards when it comes to events and this one is unbelievable - all of the sessions are ready and waiting to go live, this team has also thought of every detail - you won’t be disappointed.

For you my listener, I recommend using this summit as an opportunity to find some new top of the toolbox items or fun projects - I even created a YouTube video (I don’t do these often) [giggle] - it has some tips that will be live in a couple of days. It’s part of a wider playlist from other speakers in the event. And this playlist? It’s life hacks - I told you they thought of everything.

Don’t miss this opportunity. I’m honored to be a part of it and recorded my session while taking a walk in the woods - the title of it is Thought Decluttering and More for Almost Empty Nesters and Empty Nesters - and, by the way, I’m not the only empty nest speaker.

As always, you’ll find the link in my show notes. I hope to see you there and if you join the attendee Facebook Group, tag me and say “Hi!”

04:24

[level-up]

Now for your quick review of the 30-Day Challenge to Empty Nest Success announcements and resources. You’ll find links in the show notes to the following:

[bell sound] Videos for all of the 30-Day Challenge to Empty Nest Success days - if you prefer video to audio - or, maybe, you would like to reinforce the topics.

[bell sound] A way to register for email delivery of the challenge videos

[bell sound] Links to a free downloadable companion workbook for the challenge, as well as an optional online journal upgrade, for a small investment

By the way, there is a bonus coupon code in the workbook I just mentioned.

[bell sound] Links to follow me in two of my favorite social media platforms: TikTok and Instagram

Finally, the entire challenge is brought to you by the C.E.O. Training Team to Empty Nest Success membership, powered by SupaPass.

05:54

[level-up music]

Today’s topic is to embrace the bittersweet. You have 18+ years of memories, of relationship building, of getting comfortable in your role as your child’s parent, and as excited for them, you may also have competing emotions - depending on the moment.

Bittersweet is the best word I have found to describe the emotions of this time - and you may be able to apply it to any major transition in your life. Know that your emotions may take you on a “bit of a journey,” and they might surprise you. One moment you are smiling ear to ear and the next you are a ball of tears because you miss the dirty dishes you used to complain about.

Your emotional journey and your emotions are yours. Your emotions are fine to have because you are having them. Sure, they may take you for a ride, or maybe on a detour,  but you’ll get back where you need to be. First, claim that you feel the way you feel. Whether it is happy, sad, angry, anxious, or something else. Accepting the feeling allows you to do something with it - even if it is sitting with some ben and jerry’s ice cream while you watch your goto - that movie always makes me cry.

Embrace it all. Your emotions are a beautiful part of who you are and they have a lot to teach you about yourself.

If you are able to catch your emotions and label them, it’s a good time to pat yourself on the back that you “caught them.” If you have an emotion that makes you uncomfortable, you can try saying to yourself, “I am feeling _____. And at the end of that statement, you could try adding one of two things: that is okay / or and it will pass - whichever feels better for you, or something else if it works for you.

An important disclaimer that I must make and I really want you to hear: If you are unable to pull out of serious depression, or are having self-harm thoughts, please seek mental health resources! And, as always, I’m cheering you on.

If you are easily able to label and process through your emotions,  trust that you’ll be able to do more with your emotions in time but for now, embrace the changes and lean into the emotions that feel good. REALLY lean into those good ones!

08:25

[level-up music]

Your journal prompt for today is Do you have competing emotions about the empty nest? What are they? What if you are curious about them rather than annoyed with those that you don’t love? By the way, find more journal prompts on this episode’s companion video in the Empty Nest Success online home.

08:49

[level-up music]

[end/tag line]

As always, I provide content to make you think. My hope is that I am able to provide you with thoughts that positively impact your life. If you enjoyed this episode, I invite you to take a moment to follow this podcast - it is free after all - AND become this podcast's hero by sharing it with others!

Challenge: Your Life's Toolbox (1/30)

FULL TRANSCRIPT

[level-up music]

Our topic today is an introduction to your life’s toolbox and to consider a journal for the 30-Day Challenge to Empty Nest Success.

[level-up music]

Hello amazing human and beautiful soul! I am your host, Coach Christine Oakfield bringing to you the 30-Day Challenge to Empty Nest Success.

[upbeat music begins under voice]

You'll find 167 episodes of content in season one of the Your Empty Nest Coach podcast. Back to you, my listener, or C.E.O. in Training, are you ready to dive in? Here we go!

 [level-up music]

01:30

I am  thrilled you are listening today! I have two housekeeping items and one news item:

Our First housekeeping item: If this is your first time listening to the podcast, know that episode 0 in Season 2 of the podcast is the best place to begin - the title is Getting Started with the 30-Day Challenge to Empty Nest Success

And our second housekeeping item: This episode has a video with the same topic available in the Empty Nest Success home. The topic is the same with a different delivery and slight variations - I recorded it separately. The length is under 6 minutes long and in the description you’ll find additional journal prompts, quotes to consider as well as some other items.

For this video in particular, you’ll find links to my favorite journal & pen, in case you are curious.

A news item:  I recently chatted with Susie Pettit of the “Love Your Life Show” which you may listen to wherever you listen to podcasts -  or watch us chat on YouTube - we cover a tremendous amount of topics in our 40 minutes together! I enjoyed our shared energy very much. As always, you’ll find links in the show notes.

02:41

[level-up music]

In our last episode, I shared all about the challenge, answered questions and mentioned additional resources available.

For this, day one, I invite you to seriously Consider a Journal - keeping in mind that journaling can look different for each of us. Here are some suggestions:

  • Use a traditional journal - your favorite paper and pen is always a good idea!

  • Use the companion guidebook and printable page I have titled “Daily Journal!” Should you choose to use that, I highly recommend first spending a few moments filling out the “The Journey Begins” worksheet!

  • You could  use an online journal or app

  • How about index cards with some stickers, markers, and then placing  them in a decorative index card holder

  • And no one’s stopping you from journaling to get your thoughts and ideas out of your head and then tossing or shredding the paper.

Don’t be afraid to think like your younger-self, your most creative self and if you do journal, be sure it brings you joy!

03:44

[level-up music]

Your Life’s Toolbox - which I also call the C.E.O. Toolbox. While, sure, you can purchase a real toolbox, make it super fun and note things that help you within it, but for these purposes, today  - especially, we’re talking about an imaginary toolbox.

We are focusing on the items in the top of your toolbox today - you know those go-to, quick and easy to access items that you need a bit more often and usually not for really big projects? Those items.

Your assignment, should you choose to accept, is to begin paying attention to things that bring you joy; make you laugh; you might want to try; things that bring you peace; hobbies you love; hobbies you wanna try; people you love chatting with, and so on.

The beauty of having this toolbox and creating it, filling it up, making it yours is that you will have things ready to access for when you need them. Think of it as your first-aid kit. Emotions can toss you around a bit through the empty nest transition and while I’m a huge fan of embracing your emotions and moving through them, let’s be honest, there are times when you may not have the time to do that work, and in that case, a reset of some sort is what I recommend. A conscious reset can make all the difference.

For that conscious reset, let me give you an example: maybe for you, you love watching a certain topic of videos on YouTube. Maybe there’s some guilt about how much time you spend doing that - that's a whole ‘nother topic we won’t dive into now, but this being said, you know that you enjoy these videos and they make you happy.

There’s a big difference from mindlessly watching the videos for hours on end with no plan, versus gifting yourself with the time to watch them as a reset.

The presenting of the gift of time and the reset is up to you. But that consciously gifting - the time you use with those top of the toolbox items before you use them can make a tremendous difference in how you feel when you wrap up your time with them.

While it’s the same videos you’re watching, it’s a different energy as you watch it.

Knowing you’re consciously choosing it as a distraction is the difference. It’s the gift you give yourself.

I encourage you to pay attention to this and see if anything changes for you.

Over the 30 days of this challenge, look for a new top of your toolbox item each day. And at the end, you’ll have 30. That’s a great start for when you notice your emotions are a bit too much for you.

Here are a few top of the toolbox examples to get your creative juices flowing: coloring - yes with crayons; taking a walk or run; sitting in silence and focusing on your breathing; how about: sitting in silence and staring at a wall?; going to the gym; calling or texting a particular friend; watching something that makes you laugh; reading…  I’d love to for you to share with us in the Empty Nest Success home, what fun things you come up with!

07:16

[level-up music]

Earlier, I mentioned that you may always download the companion guidebook for the Challenge but if you aren’t someone who will do that, I’d like to quickly review the content there, as it may be useful.

In the Journey Begins worksheet we start with:

“My thoughts about the empty nest” - this is where you add three thoughts that are “top of your mind” and that you believe.

There is power in getting those thoughts out of your head and onto paper.

The thoughts don’t matter. You aren’t judging them; you aren’t rating them; you aren’t beating yourself up about them. We are simply writing down words and becoming curious about them.

This isn’t a time for editing either.

The next section is similar:

You write down three emotions you have about the empty nest…

Then I ask you to answer the question:

Who am I?

So I ask you: Who are you?

Don’t overthink it, just write whatever comes to mind. You’ll do the same worksheet at the end of the 30 days to see if your answers have changed.

The last question that’s kind of thrown at the bottom of the page is: Do I believe that I am amazing?

Then, for the Daily Journal, if you like structure, here’s what I recommend: each day, note any thoughts that arise while listening to or watching the day’s content.

Then, note a win for you for the day - this is a personal win. It doesn’t need to be a big win, either. What do you need to celebrate - for you?

Then we are going to stretch you:  note a dream that you have. Yes, each day we’re going to do this - the bigger the better. To be clear, we aren’t figuring out how to make them happen, we are simply tapping into the side of us that we may not be used to accessing. No editing. If it comes to mind, it makes your heart happy - even if it is pure fantasy - write it down. Maybe you want to fly to Neptune. Write it down. Use your imagination - it’s super fun!

If you aren’t noting those somewhere else, note a toolbox item: something from the day that you really enjoyed, that you could have in your go-to toolbox.

And finally, if you are so inclined, write this statement, or say it with me now “I am becoming the Conscious Effective Olympian of my life. I am a C.E.O. in Training.” You are! I’m so proud of you.

10:00

[level-up music]

Your journal prompt for today is to imagine yourself 30 days from now: someone who has journaled each day, [and] has discovered much about themselves. And ask yourself: How did you do it? Did you set a timer? Did you schedule it in your calendar every day? Did you send yourself voice memos? Did you sign up for the email reminders? Be creative and consider what a life of 30 days of short, fun, and easy journaling would look like for you.

10:36

[level-up music]

As always, I provide content to make you think. My hope is that I am able to provide you with thoughts that positively impact your life. [level-up music]

01:22

In this initial (and prep) episode, for the challenge, I’ll answer some questions you may have about the 30-Day Challenge to Empty Nest Success and I’ll talk about additional resources you may want to check out.

01:37

[level-up music]

What is this challenge?

This challenge is created to introduce you to some of the best content of my podcast episodes and coaching, thus far. It is also a great way to begin scheduling time in your life for you. You can start small - it only takes 5-10 minutes a day to take in the content and digest it. If you wanna  add on journaling or extra activities mentioned- fantastic - but that is entirely up to you.

02:06

[level-up music]

When can you start the challenge?

That’s an easy one. You may begin anytime!

02:13

[level-up music]

Is this Challenge right for you?

In case this is your first time hearing from me, I began developing content for mothers who are freaking out about the Empty Nest ahead about five years ago - I started with a handful of beta (or test) clients to see if this is something I really wanted to pursue. The good news is that the trial went really well and I launched my podcast a couple of months later. I've had the privilege, since then, to work with parents who are freaking out about the empty nest years - and I’ve even successfully worked with non-parental humans, too!

This challenge is perfect for you if you have questions and thoughts such as,

  • What am I going to do with my life when my child moves out?
  • I am not sure who I am outside of my role as a parent/partner/employee - all the things I do.
  • What will I do with the extra time?
  • Will my partner and I get along?
  • Am I going to be okay?
  • How do I find friends in the empty nest years?
  • While my child is moving on, my parents are needing me more - and I don’t know that I feel good about this.

And this list goes on.

Whether you are single, happily married, divorced or anywhere in between, you’ll find this content helpful.

Whether you have one child or 5 (or more), you’ll find this content helpful.

If you are a working parent or a parent who gave up a career to stay home and raise your child, you’ll find this content helpful.

03:33

These things being said, here are three reasons this challenge may NOT be right for you?

First, you hate analogies. I love them and use them a lot.

Second, you are looking for a task master who will shame you into completing the challenge. This is not my style. I believe you are amazing, life is supposed to be fun, and wherever you are, is where you can progress from. Whether you complete the challenge in 30 minutes, 30 days or 30 weeks, I still think you are amazing - any time you make time for yourself is a win!

And the third reason? You really wanna lean into that sadness and mope with others. Sure, life has challenges, and  you are fully capable of handling them. How do I know? You’ve gotten this far in life! And as for the sadness: the emotions - yes, I love emotions. They are gifts for us - when we are able to tune into them, acknowledge them, and move through and on to better ones, life gets fun!

Side note: If you don’t love my content, don’t force it. I appreciate you for giving it a try and I am sending you lovely wishes that you find someone whose message resonates more with you. You deserve that!

05:04

[level-up music]

You may be wondering: Why you, Coach Christine?

It’s a great question! The empty nest coach niche arrived for me when my daughter went off to college at age 14, out of state. I was thrown into the empty nest four years earlier than normal and without the built in friend group who were going through things in the same way.

Not being prepared, I looked for resources to help me adjust - while I knew my daughter heading to college early was the best thing for her, I also knew it was bringing up a lot of questions and thinking that I needed to work through. I didn’t find exactly what I was looking for, so after my daughter’s first year at school, I began organizing the things that worked for me - and here we are!

I share a little bit more about my past careers (and other things) in the video in our online home, if you are interested.

My goal, always, is for you to remember how amazing you are. You're incredible. You've gotten this far. You have done so many things in your life, and you're gonna do so many amazing more things in your life.

I do understand, though, that  sometimes it’s difficult to sit in your amazingness. I invite you to borrow my belief in you until you believe it.

If you have other questions, feel free to listen to more episodes, or explore EmptyNestSuccess.com. A nd if the questions remain, don’t hesitate to reach out to me and ask!

Coach Christine, what resources do you have to keep me on track?

Another Great question: here are 6 additional resources!

Number 1, I have different formats. I understand that we don’t all learn the same way, which is why you’ll find this challenge available in multiple formats. The video format is already available! You are currently listening to the audio format and the written/article format will be coming soon!

If you prefer videos and want to see me visually, you may tap through to EmptyNestSuccess.com now, binge all the content and go on your way.

Number 2: Sign-up for email reminders at either daily or weekly intervals that provide links to the video content and keep the challenge on your radar.

Number 3, if you would like to comment on the videos and gain access to some additional content, then register for a free account in our online home.

Number 4, I have created a free downloadable guidebook for the challenge. Yes, you’ll find this, also, in our online home. It will provide the challenge topics, printable activity sheets and bonus information.

Number 5, there is an optional add-on, for a small investment, If purchased, you can copy a Google Sheet I created that you may use as an online tracking journal for your challenge progress.

And finally, number 6,  if you are looking for a fun group of people who this content has resonated with - and a weekly place to check in with me via Zoom, then I invite you to join the C.E.O. Training Team to Empty Nest Success. This is an upgrade, and my group coaching program. We have weekly calls on Mondays, and when registering, you may choose to register for the group only or to add on power private coaching sessions.

An analogy to sum up this challenge (I did mention that I like analogies): Imagine that you are building a garden for yourself in the future - a garden that blooms into who you are becoming. You embarking on this challenge is as if you're opening a catalog of seeds. Each day, you open up the catalog, and view a new seed type and

You consider things like:

  • Is this something I'd like to implement in my life?
  • Does this resonate with me?
  • Is this helpful for me?
  • Do I want to plant this seed?

In the end, you may find that 10 of the seeds are exactly what you are looking for to get your garden started. Or, you may find that all 30 resonate really well.

This is your journey. Go with what feels aligned to you and leave the rest.  There's no right or wrong way to do this. Trust your gut, and if you’d like more guidance, use the resources mentioned in the earlier section.

Some quick reminders before I go:

  • If you enjoyed this episode, I invite you to take a moment to follow this podcast - it is free after all.
  • AND become this podcast's hero by sharing it with others!
  • You’ll find links to additional resources, time markers and more in the show notes.

As always, I provide content to make you think. My hope is that I am able to provide you with thoughts that positively impact your life. Don’t you dare forget that you are amazing!

My Wish for You Today

My wish for you today is that you easily find beauty and joy as you embark on your day. Whether you discover it in nature, within your family or friends, through kindness of strangers, or maybe unexpected abundance makes an appearance.

New Things. New Things. New Things!

My current PodPause has been rewarding and rejuvenating. I’ve had time to work on content for the Empty Nest Success community and recently felt led to create a 30 Day Challenge, which is why I am popping into your feed today.

That’s right, the Challenge is my first new thing!

The #30DayChallenge to Empty Nest Success begins May 1st 2023. It’s designed to kick start your adventure of becoming the C.E.O. of Your Life!

This challenge will be delivered through daily videos that are 1 minute or less of your time. Videos will present a thought, an idea, or something you can begin to consider in your life. This challenge might be all you need or it you may find it leads you to dive in to even more of the content found in the Empty Nest Success online home. By the way, I created a guidebook to go along with the challenge. It contains a list of topics for each day, a thank you offer if you take an extra step, and printable worksheets - if you like that sort of thing.

Curious on how to participate? Well, you may do so by simply following along on the socials as I’ll be posting all of the videos to TikTok, Instagram Reels, Facebook Reels, Pinterest, LinkedIn and YouTube shorts. That being said, it’s a great time to follow me on your favorite platform, if you haven’t done so already and you’ll find my profile @emptynestcoach in all the places. If you would like a little bit more in this challenge such as access to the guidebook, emails when a new video is posted and priority response on your video comments during the 30 days, then head over to EmptyNestSuccess.com and register for a complimentary account - no payment required.

The challenge is filled with what I consider top tips from my four years of content creation! If you are listening to this episode well after May of 2023, I invite you to visit EmptyNestSuccess.com to learn how to participate. Consider this - this moment right here - your official invitation to join us, and tell a friend - or two - or two hundred. 😉 Thanks!

00:05:13

MY Second New thing, isn’t really a new thing, just an update:

My podpause will continue after this episode. I do plan to be back regularly this summer, after the challenge is wrapped up and more content in the community has been updated. If you are looking for curated episodes or would like to search on a topic, visit EmptyNestSuccess.com and tap on Audio Content in the menu.

00:05:39

With that, I’m going to wrap this episode. I’d love to see you participate in the 30 Day Challenge if you’re feeling led to join in. As always, I provide content to make you think, my empty nest friend.

My HOPE is that I’m able to provide you with thoughts that positively impact your life. If you enjoyed this episode, please don’t forget to share it with others; it’s the best way to allow it to reach a wider audience and get it to the people who could use it.  A reminder to check out the episode show notes and check in on your relationship with yourself my empty nest friend. After all, YOU ARE AMAZING! Chat next time.
